Welcome to the CPS Elementary Music Page!
Students at Washington and Parkview elementary schools attend music once each week for 45 minutes, with an additional 45 minute session on a Friday four or five times throughout the year. Classes at each grade level share what they have learned by presenting an evening performance once during the school year. Please use the tabs above to find information regarding the topics we are studying each month and our performance schedule.
MSU Singfest Information - an opportunity for students who love to sing!
Third graders, I have recently learned that applications will be accepted until 2/23 for this event! Your singer is invited to participate in SingFest on Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the Fairchild Theatre at Michigan State University. SingFest is a fun day of singing choral music with the directors of the MSU Children and Youth Choirs. This opportunity is open to any student in the greater Lansing area schools currently ingrades 3-6. The singers will meet in the morning, receive music, sing, learn, and have fun. After lunch, the students will perform the songs they have learned for family and friends. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to sing some wonderful music and meet other students that like to sing too! Click here to access the application forms: singfest_forms_18__1_.pdf
We have ukuleles!!
Charlotte Public Schools was fortunate to be selected to receive a set of 40 Soprano Makala Waterman Ukuleles from Kala Brand Music Company in their recent Facebook Giveaway. Ukuleles have become popular instruments for younger students because they are a little smaller and easier to manage than guitars. The students at Parkview and Washington elementary schools, including this group from Mrs. Keyton’s third grade class, are very excited about learning to play chords on the new ukuleles in music class. Thank you to Kala Brand Music for
their generous donation! Oriole Pride!!
Thank you to our elementary PTOs for providing the funds for our second grade kazoos again this year! What a wonderful musical tool for learning about pitch and reading rhythms!
Our amazing kazoos were made at the Kazoobie Kazoo Factory in Beaufort County, South Carolina. You can watch kazoos made there and even visit the kazoo museum.
